sound is void: piano magic - ovations

Piano Magic is nothing if not eclectic. Each album is a little adventure, journeying this way and that. That journey itself seems to be the goal. Ovations, from 2009, weaves various threads of that experimental spirit into a lush and intriguing tapestry. Starting with the commanding presence of guest vocalist Brendan Perry (Dead Can Dance), this disc enters deep 4AD territory and will appeal to fans of atmospheric and ethereal pop. Eclectic though he may be, group leader Glen Johnson is consistent in his interests, and this is one of Piano Magic's most satisfying albums. Melancholy melodies and poignant lyrics, ethnic percussion, "shoegaze" guitar, a dirge or two, even a harp; all the ingredients are here for a night at home with candles and wine. Or absinthe, if you prefer.

  1. This is absolutely beautiful - just the first few tacts (what's it in English? bars? counts?) of A Fond Farewell would guarantee a download, no to mention the rest.
Now on to the rest of the album.
